Waiting for the Birthday Cake
In the classic Peanuts comic strip, Lucy and Linus were watching television, when Lucy said to Linus, “Go get me a glass of water.” Linus looked surprised, “Why should I do anything for you? You never do anything for me!” “On your 75th birthday,” Lucy promised, “I’ll bake you a cake.” Linus got up, headed to the kitchen and said, “Life is more pleasant when you have something to look forward to.” (Source: “A Fresh Touch From God” by D. That’s a humorous example where someone benefits now – and someone else benefits later. Did you know that this “now and later” approach can add joy to your life too? For several decades now, ministry-minded people like you have discovered a very popular giving tool where they can receive a fixed income for life now, in return for a gift that their favorite ministry such as Grace Bible College will receive later.
It’s called a Charitable Gift Annuity. A Charitable Gift Annuity is a simple contract under which a ministry you love such as Grace Bible College – in return for a transfer of cash, marketable securities or other assets – agrees to pay a fixed amount of money to one or two individuals for their lifetime. The donor receives a charitable deduction at the time they fund the Charitable Gift Annuity, and the annual payment percentage is based on your age at the time the gift is made. In addition, a portion of each payment is tax-free. At death, the ministry receives the balance of the annuity.
Through the eyes of faith, many have discovered that a Charitable Gift Annuity not only makes sense financially, but is also a wonderful way to experience the truth of the great hymn, that God gives us and those we love “strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.”
