Grace Defeats Boyce College, Coach Bailey Earns 200th WIn
Grand Rapids, MI – The NCCAA II #3 Grace Bible College Tigers returned to Aldrich Athletic Center for the first time since November 12 Friday night, to face the Bulldogs of Boyce College (KY).
The first half saw the Tigers keep a short lead for the bulk of the 20 minutes, but eventually the Bulldogs’ hot shooting resulted in the score knotted up at 50-50 at the half. Bulldog guard Ben Akers was able to knock down 6 shots from beyond the arc, finishing with 21 points on the half.
Grace was able to start the 2nd half with a double-digit run that would ultimately give them the lead for the remainder of the game. Amongst the streak, sophomore Paul TenHarmsel and junior Travis Rader had fast break dunks, produced by the noticeably more aggressive Grace defense to start the half. It was very evident that the Tiger defense turned it up a notch in the final 20 minutes, halting the Bulldogs’ hot streak and holding them to 30 points and 23% shooting in the half.
When the final buzzer sounded, the score finished at Grace 94, Boyce 80.
Grace finished with seven players scoring double-figures, led by junior Brad Rosenzweig with 16 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the floor. Freshman Jared Bradford and junior Cameron Cramer followed with 13 each.
The Tigers were able to out-rebound the Bulldogs by a final count of 49 to 29. Senior Nick Mascorro and Rosenzweig led the Tigers on the boards with 9 apiece. Mascorro also distributed well on the offensive end, as he led the Tigers with 7 assists on the night.
This was a milestone win, as the victory gave Head Coach Gary Bailey his 200th career win in only his 9th season at the helm. The Tigers move to 10-12 on the season, leading into tomorrow where they will travel to Illinois to take on NCCAA Midwest Region opponent, Lincoln Christian University.
