  • Tigers comeback to defeat Cornerstone JV

In what some people would call an upset, the Tigers went to Cornerstone and pulled out a 70-67 win. " Cornerstone's JV has been very good for the last three years, I don't think they have lost more then 4 or 5 times during that time, so for us to go there and win says a lot about these kids."  " In fact were down 12 in the second half and with about 10 minutes to go we started to hit shots and got  three or four stops in a row."  said Coach Oldebekking after the game.  " I am just proud of the kids for hanging in there this season, our season didn't get off to a great start, but we have really turned it on after Christmas break, and our only loss was an over time heartbreaker."

This game wasn't even a tale of two halves as much as it was a tale of 10 minute runs.  Grace started the first 10 minutes of the game on a run bumping out to a lead of 7 points, Cornerstone switched up some defense and was able to quickly get back a lead, and went into the locker room up 31-26.  The first 10 minutes of the second half was all Cornerstone as they built up a 12 point lead and looked to be running away with the game, as the Tigers had a hard time handling Cornerstone freshman Ty Smith.  "With ten minutes to go we switched some stuff up and were able to get a little bit more ball pressure on their guards and it really created some problems, and made it a little tougher to get it down to their big guy." explained Coach Oldebekking. With the change in pressure the Tigers began to get stops and two timely threes from Eric Zudweg got them right back in the game.  The Tigers iced the game at the free throw line making 5-6 free throws in the final minute to pull out the win.

The Tigers had a balanced score sheet as they were led by Eric Zudweg with 15, Dan Cole with 12, and Ben Kronemeyer with 11.  The Tigers will return to action this Saturday at Hope College.
