Five Lady Tigers Earn Regional Honors
The Grace Bible College Lady Tiger basketball team enjoyed one of their better seasons in program history in 2013-14. Five Lady Tiger players earned awards as they were handed out at the regional tournament held February 27-March 1 at Northland International University in Dunbar, Wisconsin.
Juniors Marissa Pelletier (Grand Rapids, Mi/Calvin Christian H.S.) and Katie Allers (Marne, Mi/Coopersville H.S) both earned Academic All Region status. In order to be eligible for the award, players must be at least junior status and carry a minimum of a 3.4 cumulative GPA. Congratulations to both young women for their excellent contributions on the court and in the classroom.
Sophomore forward Anna Iwaniw (Kent City, Mi/Kent City H.S) earned First Team All Region for her efforts this season. Anna finished the year averaging 11.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and earned the reputation as one of the best mid range shooters in the entire region, shooting 46% from the field and 82% from the FT line.
Freshman point guard Molly Holtrop (Cedar Springs, Mi/Cedar Springs H.S.) earned second team honors for her solid initial season. Molly averaged 11.4 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. Molly is a very exciting player that will keep opposing coaches awake at night trying to figure out how to contain her speed. Molly was the only freshman in the Midwest Region to earn All Region status.
Sophomore guard/forward Amy Leszinske (Ravenna, Mi/Ravenna H.S.) earned honorable mention status. Playing at that level is remarkable because Amy changed positions this year, going from point guard to more of an inside player, which demonstrates her versatility. Amy has athletic ability that few, if any, in the region can match and she began to put that on display late in the season. Amy averaged a well-rounded 8.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
