RECENT ALUMNI TESTIMONIAL BY RACHEL MATYCHUK

Rachel MatychukI attended Grace Bible College from 2009-2013 and graduated with a Human Services degree. I decided I was going to go to Grace when I was eight years old, and I never changed my mind. It was always Grace for me. My time at Grace really shaped my life and my walk with the Lord. During that time, I changed majors and really struggled with knowing God’s will for my life. I knew I wanted to be in ministry but didn’t know where or how or what. Through classes, chapels, small groups, and personal time with God I came to realize that I have a real heart for helping people, and that’s how I changed to Human Services. Even after that I still felt a little directionless, but professors and friends continued to point me back to Christ and trust in Him. During my time at Grace I also felt a strong calling to the mission field. That terrified me. It took me until the end of my senior year to get the courage to apply to Grace Ministries International, which is located on GBC’s campus. I was a little shocked, very humbled and grateful when I found out they accepted me and even encouraged me to go for a yearlong term instead of three months. Agreeing to go to Bolivia by myself for a year was one of the scariest things I have ever done yet it gave me so much peace to know I was in God’s will. My year in Bolivia stretched me in so many ways. I worked in children’s homes, taught English, was on staff for eight camps, participated in youth groups, supported our churches there, and even joined an international choir. I learned what it’s like to be in full time ministry and how I as a person could relate to others. Most importantly I learned what it really is to trust in God and to rely on Him for everything. Now I am back in the United States I have been very excited to see what God has for me next. I recently started a career in human services in Minnesota, but I am still thinking about going back to the mission field in the future. I’m so thankful for both my time at Grace and in Bolivia, and I truly believe that God is using my education from GBC and my experience from Bolivia in my new job working with clients and speaking Spanish. I cannot wait to see how God will continue to lead and use me.
