Rich Renzema
Head Coach

Coach Renzema begins his 46th year of coaching basketball in the Grand Rapids area, and his 11th at Grace Bible College. He was the Michigan Class B coach of the in 2001 when he lead the Coopersville Men’s team to a 26 and 2 record and a state finals appearance. He was also the ACCA National Coach of the year in 2006 and the NCCAA National coach of the year in 2008 while leading the team to a school record 28 wins. He started his career at Caledonia High School and then to Wyoming Park High School prior to moving to Coopersville High School.

Coach Renzema was honored by the Michigan High School Coaches Association for winning over 600 varsity basketball games. Basketball is not the only sport he has coached in high School. Some of the other sports he has coached are Cross-Country, Golf and Track. At Coopersville he lead the Women’s track team to the 2003 Team state championship which topped off seven years of going undefeated.

He has been married for 46 years to his wife Kathie, who travels with the team and serves as the teams activity director. They have four children and six grandchildren. Some of his best memories are coaching his four children in basketball and track.

Fred Kosten 
Assistant Coach

Fred will be starting his 5th year as assistant coach for the Lady Tigers. He has coached over 40 seasons of basketball at Coopersville High School including all 3 levels of girls and all 3 levels of boys.  This included 12 years as the head girls coach and 2 seasons as the head boys coach.  Fred also coached 7 years of varsity baseball at Coopersville.  Coach Kosten has been working with Coach Renzema for over 30 years at Coopersville and Grace, so he is very familiar with the system.

A graduate of Western Michigan University, Fred was an industrial arts teacher for over 30 years at Coopersville.  Since retiring in 2003, Fred has enjoyed woodworking and making furniture for his family.

Fred has been married to wife Joyce for over 40 years.  They are the parents of three children and four grandchildren.

Carrie Kalumbula
Assistant Coach

Carrie was a standout guard for the Lady Tigers from 1994-1998. She returns to coaching after spending four years from 1998-2002 as an assistant for the women’s basketball program at Grace. Carrie graduated in 1999 with degrees in education from Cornerstone University and religious education at Grace Bible College. Carrie is married to Kizombo Kalumbula, also a graduate of GBC, and they have six children. She spends time homeschooling her children and is involved in the children’s programs at her church. Carrie has coached multiple youth basketball teams for her kids, and has helped many other basketball programs over the past years.

Abigail Phillips
Assistant Coach

Abigail will begin her first year at assistant coach for the Lady Tigers in 2015. Abigail played for the Tigers from 2003-2006 and is currently #12 on the all-time scorers list with 990 career points. She graduated from Grace Bible College with an associates degree in Business. These days Abigail keeps busy with two small ones, working part-time, serving in her church, and keeping up with the girls on the court. She currently works as an administrative assistant for Teen Bible Challenge.
