  • Title: Professor of Music

    Jason Werkema

    B.Mus., Cornerstone Univeristy

    M.Mus., Bowling Green State University

    Ph.D. Higher Education Leadership, Western Michigan University

    Dr. Jason Werkema is Professor and Chair of Worship Arts at Grace Bible College, Grand Rapids, Michigan.  With expertise in acoustic, classical, bass, and jazz guitar, he is distinguished in Michigan as a leading guitar instructor. An accomplished musician, he has performed concerts in churches, recital halls, and schools throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, including a series of performances at the World’s Fair in Sevilla, Spain.  He has participated in guitar master classes and/or private study with renowned guitarists including David Russell, Sharon Isbin, Alice Artzt, Chris Buzzelli, John Holmquist, Brian Morris, and Paul Vondiziano.

    Previous to his current position, he earned a Bachelors of Music degree from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan and a Masters of Music degree from Bowling Green State University, Ohio.  His Doctor of Philosophy degree is in Higher Education Leadership from Western Michigan University.  He has served as an adjunct professor at Calvin College, Cornerstone University, the Grand Rapids Community College, and as a graduate teaching assistant at Bowling Green State University.  Dr. Werkema was also a founding member of the Grand Rapids Guitar Quartet.  He currently maintains www.JasonWerkema.com, a website that provides learning resources and video instruction for guitarists. Above all, he celebrates his identity in Christ and passionately looks for ways to share God's grace with others.

    Interests include reading, photography, audio and video production, kayaking, fly fishing, golfing, camping, card magic, and especially family time. He and his wife, Darcie, have three children and a little black dog named Buttons.



  • Title: Assistant Professor Music

    Kayleen Bobbitt

    Kayleen is a faculty member and Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Piano at Grace Bible College. She received her undergraduate training at Moody Bible Institute and Trinity International University, where she graduated Summe cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Piano Performance.  She then received a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance, with High Honors, from Central Michigan University. She also holds a Post-baccheloreatte Degree in Elementary Education from Calvin College.

    During her career, she has held a variety of musical positions and responsibilities, including Director of Music at Berean Bible Church (now Rush Creek Bible Church); Director of Music for Sola Scriptura (an evangelical ministry now based in Orlando, Florida); accompanist for  Grand Rapids Men and Boys’ Choir; church accompanist;  concert pianist with Keys 2 Transport; and faculty member at Calvin College, Aquinas College, and Grace Bible College, where she has taught since 1980.

    As an employee of Sola Scriptura, she performed annually for a Scripture conference in Herefordshire, England.   She has traveled throughout the United States directing and accompanying Grace Singers, a mixed-voice ensemble from Grace Bible College. Kayleen has composed commissioned works for Grand Rapids Men and Boys’ Choir and Sola Scriptura.  She has recorded projects for Christian ministries, including Keys 2 Transport, Sola Scriptura and the Christian Reformed Church of America.  She has also self-published a book of piano hymn arrangements entitled “Rhapsodies of Piano Praise,” and a fourteen-book series on sacred piano improvisation entitled, “Hymnprovise.”

    Kayleen is married to her college sweetheart, Bill, and has 3 children and 2 grandchildren.  Her deepest desire is to bring glory to her Savior, Jesus Christ, with the gifts He has given her.



  • Title: Worship Arts Facilitator

    Adam Wolf

    B.Mus. Worship Arts, Grace Bible College

    Adam Wolf is the Worship Arts Facilitator at Grace Bible College.  He is an alumni of Grace Bible College, and graduated with a Bachelors in Music in Worship Arts.  

    He has experience working full-time as a Worship Pastor at a local church, and has lead several worship teams/bands in several different venues across the state.  

    With a passion for Leading Worship and a deep love for music, Adam’s vision for the Worship at Grace Bible College is to "serve the campus by leading and creating an atmosphere of authentic and unforgettable worship". 

    God has certainly gifted Adam with the ability to engage people in worship.  Couple that with his heart and passion to help people see Jesus, and you will find he loves what he does! 



  • Title: Worship Arts Adjunct Professor

    Daniel Longhin

    Daniel Longhin is an adjunct professor for the Worship Arts Program at GBC.  He has his Bachelors in Music Composition from Cornerstone University, a Masters in Music Composition at Michigan State University, and a Doctorate in Worship Studies at Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies. 

    Daniel is Married, has 4 children and currently serves as the Worship Pastor at Calvary Church of Wayland, Michigan.



  • Title: Drum Instructor

    Danny Reyes

    A graduate of the Drummers Collective School of Music in New York City with emphasis of study in third world rhythms and studio drumming.

    Upon graduating from Drummers Collective in '89, Danny relocated to Nashville, Tennessee where he played professionally (studios, concert performances, church worship etc.) from '91-'94. 

    With over 30 years of playing experience, Danny is well versed in the styles of Latin, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Blues, Country, and Contemporary Worship among others and holds over 19 years of teaching experience as a private instructor in the west Michigan as well as maintaining a professional performance schedule.



  • Title: String Instructor

    Bea Sloothaak

    Bea Sloothaak is an adjunct professor of strings at GBC. She has completed coursework at Fort Wayne Bible College, Grand Rapids Community College, and an Associate of Arts at Grace Bible College. In addition to her role at Grace Bible College, she maintains a music studio where she provides string lessons for students of all ages.


  • Title: Worship Arts Assistant

    Kristen Doornbos

    Kristen Doornbos is the part time Worship Arts Assistant.  She helps out with administrative details, event planning and assists with communications. She is currently a junior in the Worship Arts program pursuing her Bachelor's degree in Music.

    Kristen has been playing the guitar since age 12, and has been writing her own music since 2009. She recorded her first full studio album, "Fall Awake," in the summer of 2013. She currently leads worship with a team at Crossroads Bible Church in Grand Rapids.

    Before coming to the Worship Arts program, Kristen studied interior design at Grand Rapids Community College. She also spent time traveling in Alaska and Iceland.


  • Title: Worship Arts Music Tutor

    Ryan Vegh

    Ryan Vegh is presently a Worship Arts student at Grace Bible College serving as the Music Tutor on campus, helping students as they learn music theory and ear training.

    Ryan has been involved with music since he was eight years old, singing and writing songs. He has self-produced two full-length albums primarily of his own compositions and currently leads worship at Life Church ECC in Grandville, MI.

    Known on campus for his eclectic style and positive personality, Ryan is excited to help propel GBC students toward musical excellence.
