The Bachelor of Theology degree is awarded upon satisfactory completion of five years of prescribed academic work. This program is designed for those students desiring to prepare for professional ministry in the pastorate, missions, or youth ministry. Individuals satisfactorily completing the BTh program are eligible to apply for ordination by Grace Gospel Fellowship if they so desire.
Pastoral Ministry
The purpose of the Pastoral Ministry program is to train and equip persons for pastoral ministry. The degree program offered is constructed to give adequate training for graduates to enter directly into a pastoral ministry or as a foundation for graduate studies in related areas. The objectives of the Pastoral Ministry program are:
1. To help students become cognizant of the historical background of both the Old and New Testament biblical material.
2. To help students develop a clear understanding of the overall content of both the Old and New Testaments.
3. To enable students to properly interpret this biblical content through the development of sound hermeneutical and exegetical principles which take into consideration the dispensational character of the Bible.
4. To establish students on a firm evangelical and dispensational theological base.
5. To seek to develop each student’s preaching skills to the point he is able to communicate this theology.
6. To seek to develop each student’s abilities and concern for leading men and women to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, including an awareness of world missions.
7. To develop each student’s abilities in the field of counseling.
8. To develop each student’s administrative abilities so he can properly create and manage a growth program for the local church.
9. To help each student attain a measure of spiritual growth and commitment to Christ which will form the basis of his life and ministry.
Missiology
The primary purpose of the Missiology program is to prepare/equip men and women for cross-cultural ministries. The department offers a degree program which is designed to prepare individuals to enter directly into cross-cultural ministries though it will also serve as foundation for graduate study in related areas. The objectives of the Missiology program are:
1. To prepare students for cross-cultural ministry through character development, knowledge expansion and skill attainment.
2. To guide students in developing personal character conducive to cross-cultural ministry including spiritual formation, positive attitudes toward diversity, a burden for evangelism and an ability to work with others.
3. To instruct students in the biblical, theological and historical foundations of missions.
4. To provide a framework for understanding and evaluating mission principles, strategy and theory.
5. To provide opportunities to develop the skills necessary for cross-cultural ministry through interpersonal and teamwork skills, cross-cultural adaptation, communication, work and ministry skills and life skills.
Youth Ministry
The primary purpose of the Bachelor of Theology degree in Youth Ministry is to prepare an individual to assume a position as an active member of a church ministry team. The objectives of the Youth Ministry program are:
1. To prepare students to serve as assistant to the pastor, having received broad ministry preparation.
2. To help students develop a biblical philosophy of leadership and ministry, which will serve as a reference point for planning and developing the youth program.
3. To identify and encourage the development of individual ministry preparation and skills for the purpose of increasing usefulness to God and the church.
4. To develop each student’s understanding of the issues and needs of the contemporary youth culture.
5. To develop each student’s abilities to communicate biblical truth to young people.
6. To provide opportunities for students to train and lead others in ministry to youth.
7. To cultivate student’s abilities and skills useful in developing and maintaining personal relationships and conflict management.
Students holding a Bachelor degree from an accredited institution may receive a Bachelor of Theology degree following an additional three years of study at GBC. This program includes the greater part of the Biblical and Ministry Studies with limited General Education requirements. Career choice Pastoral Ministry, Missiology, or Youth Ministry will determine specific course requirements.
